March 11th 1985 - Mikhail Gorbachev becomes general secretary of the CPSU
March 11th 1985: Mikhail Gorbachev becomes General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party. Gorbachev heads the reconstruction of the Soviet Union with glasnost and perestroika, "transparency and reform”. Gorbachevs comrades in East Germany do not follow his course. In 1987 U.S. President Ronald Reagan recognizes in Gorbachev's policy the chance for an end to the Cold War: O-Ton: Reagan (no audio – subtitles?) The Wall falls two years later and thanks to the renewal policy of Mikhail Gorbachev the attitudes of the old power blocs also come to an end.
