On July 26th 1893 George Gross is born as “George Grosz” in Berlin. A member of the Communist Party from 1919 on, he draws in his pictures exaggerated caricatures, distorted evil mirror images of the conservative reactionary bourgeoisie of militarism, which he abhors abysmally. In 1933 he immigrates to the United States, whose citizens he becomes in 1938. The Nazis defame his paintings as degenerate art.
