September 27th 1939 – Establishment of the Reich Security Main Office
On September 27th 1939: A Nazi super agency is established. Secret State Police and the criminal investigation department (or “CDI”) are merged with the Security Service of the SS under the umbrella of the Reich Security Main Office. From here, the National Socialist leaders now steer their policy of persecution and extermination in the occupied war zones. Men such as Heydrich, Eichmann and Kaltenbrunner coordinate and organize the "Final Solution of the Jewish question" through the Reich Security Main Office, driving millions to concentration camps and into the gas chambers. In the occupied countries an extensive network of "task forces" will execute the orders from Berlin For example Task Force C is responsible for the massacre of more than 30,000 Jews in the ravine of Babi Yar, in 1941,. 15 members of police, SS and the Security Service, who participated in the mass executions of Babi Yar, will later be forced to stand trial by the Soviets. The head of the Reich Security Main Office, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, has to face trial before the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal.
