August 7th 1929: The most successful German transport airship LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin" starts on its spectacular American world trip. Under his commander Hugo Eckener, it first took course on Friedrichshafen from Lakehurst. New Jersey, to fly on from there to Tokyo and to return to Lakehurst on the 29th of August via San Francisco and Los Angeles. After a parade in New York and a reception with President Herbert C. Hoover, the passengers and crew returned safely back to Germany.
