April 8th 1973 - Pablo Picasso dies
On the 8th of April Pablo Picasso passes away. The famous painter saw himself always as a politically committed artist. In 1937 the Spaniard created the monumental painting "Guernica". It is his indictment of the war, his indictment of the bombing of the Spanish city during the Spanish Civil War by Franco and the German Luftwaffe. Later it remained natural for Picasso as a painter to take political stance. He invented the widely known symbol of the peace dove and also became a Member of the Communist Party of France in 1944.
