October 9th 1989 - Monday demonstration in Leipzig peace pact with the government
A highlight of the so called “Monday demonstrations” in East Germany, was the demonstration of 70,000 people on October 9th 1989 in Leipzig. There was a risk that it would be violently dispersed. A call for peace by six citizens of Leipzig averted a possible violent ending.
